Sycamore Manor resident celebrates 90th birthday

John P. Marzzacco celebrated his 90th birthday May 23 at Sycamore Manor Nursing Home.

Marzzacco’s three children surprised him with a party. In attendance were, his wife of 65 years, Flora; daughter, Cynthia Martin and her husband, Richard, of The Villages, Florida; daughter, Rita Marzzacco, of Loyalsock Township, and her companion, Nelson Weitzel; daughter, Brenda Larson and her husband, Donald, of South Williamsport; grandson, Rick Martin and his wife Beth, of York; granddaughter, Jana Larson Stapp, of South Williamsport; great-granddaughter Olivia Martin, of York; brother, Tom and his family; and brother, Ross and close friends.

Marzzocco was a veteran of World War II and served under the leadership of General George Patton, third Army and Omar Bradley of the first Army.

He was sent to France, Germany, Austria, Belgium and Luxembourg, where he was attached to Battery A 770 field artillery. He also was an Army postal clerk.

Marzzocco graduated from the Williamsport State Beauty School in cosmetology and retired from Weldon’s Manufacturing Co. He enjoys visits from his family, friends and participating in fitness classes.
