STEP Office of Aging holds 4th annual PEER Day

The fourth annual agency-wide PEER Day was held at the Clinton County Community Center of STEP Office of Aging on July 22 with 61 Pennsylvania Empowered Expert Residents from long term care facilities across Lycoming and Clinton counties attending, as well as Jan Brown, ombudsman specialist from the state ombudsman office, 12 local ombudsman staff and volunteers and staff from the nursing facilities that the PEERs represent.

STEP Office of Aging ombudsmen began offering the PEER program in 2006 and each nursing home as well as most of the personal care homes in Lycoming and Clinton counties now have PEER groups. There are 140 trained PEERs active in Lycoming and Clinton County facilities.

PEERs enjoyed an indoor picnic lunch catered by the 4 C’s Cafe and musical entertainment by the Steve Sutherlan. Awards were given to Outstanding PEERs from each group. Awarded for their outstanding service were Kate Weaver, from Presbyterian Home representing the senior living group; Janet Herman, from The Haven; Debbie Ricker, from ManorCare Jersey Shore; Robert Basinger, from ManorCare North; Mary Perry, from ManorCare South; Lois Cain, from Susquehanna Health Skilled Nursing and Rehab; Catherine Orso, from Rose View Center; Florence Barth, from Susque-View; Florence Metzger, from Valley View; Deborah McElheny, from The Williamsport Home; and Linda Weaver, from West House representing the PCH group.
