STEP Office of Aging distributes 2,000 fruit and vegetable vouchers

STEP has concluded its distribution of Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program vouchers, also called Veggie Vouchers, for 2018. This year, 2,000 vouchers were distributed to older adults in Lycoming and Clinton counties in a little over a month, and are able to be used for Pa.-grown fruits and veggies at participating farm stands and markets until November. No more vouchers are available.

“I think this program is great, it helps a lot of seniors to get fresh fruit and vegetables,” said Lycoming County resident Bonnie Coup.

“The purpose of the WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) and the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) is to help Pennsylvanians access fresh, locally grown food and good nutrition all while supporting our local farmers,” Melissa Harris, Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Field Representative.

Distribution typically begins each year in early June.
