Hamilton-Gibson announces new season
WELLSBORO – Theatrically, Hamilton-Gibson Productions is a scheduling rarity.
Unlike most professional, community and collegiate theaters whose “season” runs from early fall till late spring or early summer, Wellsboro’s community theater’s “season” follows the calendar, with its theatrical productions, drama camps and choral concerts running from January through December.
2012 marked significant growth for H-G with the opening of the Black Box , a second stage joining the Warehouse Theatre in the Deane Center, 29 Water St.
Under the long-time leadership of Artistic Director Thomas Wells Putnam, Hamilton-Gibson Productions announces its 2013 season:
WINTER THEATER CAMPS
H-G opens its 2013 season with back-to-back productions presented by its winter camp students.
“DISNEY’S ALICE IN WONDERLAND” (now till Jan. 19 ) – Alice meets all the classic colorful characters after tumbling through the looking glass.
Presented by area elementary school students, the Winter Camp production is staged at Mansfield High School.
“EINSTEIN IS A DUMMY” (Jan. 21 to Feb. 10) – A funny, fictional look at young Einstein has an engaging musical score and will be presented by middle school students. The Winter Camp show will be staged in the Deane Center.
“ROUNDING THIRD” (March 1 to 9, Deane Center) – A veteran, hard-nosed Little league coach knocks heads with a novice with their views differing on what it takes to win on and off the field.
This two-man cast comedy will be H-G’s entry in the annual AACT’s Circuit of Festivals competition. “Rounding Third” also was presented in recent years by Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble and Millbrook Playhouse.
“DUCK HUNTER SHOOTS ANGEL” (April 5 to 13), Deane Center – Author Mitch Albom (“Tuesdays With Morrie”) has penned a wacky look at life and love in the Alabama Swamps.
A cast including humans, animals and an alligator-man roamed Williamsport’s Community Theatre stage with much delight a couple of seasons ago.
“ALL SHOOK UP” (July 19 to 27, Black Box) – A hip-swirling, guitar-playing roustabout turns a small town upside down with his rousing renditions.
The large cast gets riled up in this jukebox musical featuring dozens of Elvis Presley hits. “All Shook Up” shook the rafters of Millbrook’s barn theater as last summer’s summer opener.
“WAIT UNTIL DARK” (Aug. 16 to 24, Warehouse) – This riveting drama focuses upon a blind girl’s terror inside her home as killers stalk her. Lycoming College also presented this tension-filled drama a few years ago.
“THE TRIAL OF WALTER GOODWIN” (Sept. 26 to 29, Deane Center) – 2013 marks the return of one of H-G’s most successful courtroom dramas. Based upon a true story, the “Trial…” resulted in the last public hanging in Tioga county.
‘THE MAD WOMAN OF CHAILLOT” (Nov. 8 to 16, Black Box) – With a large cast, this drama set in Paris, features an unusual mix of mystery, adventure and romance.
“A CHRISTMAS CAROL” (Dec.; Black Box) – H-G’s perennial production will utilize two casts this year with various performances during Wellsboro’s “Dickens of a Weekend” festivities in December.
