Auditions for Millbrook Playhouse
MILL HALL – Tryouts don’t have to be trying, so promises Teresa K. Pond, Millbrook Playhouse’s artistic director, as the professional theatre housed in Clinton County’s old barn theatre gears up for its historic 50th anniversary summer season.
Auditions will be held locally and in New York City “for talented people, ages 6-60 to fill all roles in Millbrook’s eight shows this summer,” said Pond from her parents’ home in Anchorage, Ala., earlier this week before flying to New York and onto Mill Hall.
Local auditions will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday for adults (16 years and up).
Tryouts for children, ages 6 to 15, will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, with callbacks scheduled for noon till 6 p.m. Sunday.
All auditions will be held in Central Mountain’s Middle School Auditorium, 200 Ben Ave., in Mill Hall. Auditions will be held in New York City next weekend with all directors participating in the casting process.
Heading the casting team for local auditions will be Pond, Millbrook’s casting director, Holly Buczek, and the directors of this season’s two big-scale musicals “Grease” and “The Sound of Music.”
For children auditioning for musicals, Pond requests that they “sing a brief song which shows off their personality and range.” Youngsters should bring along their own music and an accompanist will be provided.
Those children trying out for “The Sound of Music” will also be taught a quick dance to be performed in groups.
For “straight shows” (comedies and dramas), those auditioning will be asked to do a one-minute monologue. If no monologue is prepared, “sides” (short excerpts) from various plays will be provided.
All performers are non-equity and all positions are paid.
50th season lineup
“We’re excited to reach this milestone,” Pond said. “We’re especially hopeful to cast community adults of all ages. And being our golden anniversary, we’ve put out an open invitation for any alumni from past shows to audition for one of this season’s shows. And if not to audition, to return to Millbrook to attend a performance.”
This season’s Main Stage productions, which will run from June 13 through Aug. 4, are “Grease,” “The Sound of Music,” “A Midsummer’s Night Dream” and “Always, Patsy Cline.”
The downstairs Cabaret attractions, which run from June 21 through Aug. 11, are “Come Blow Your Horn,” “The Woman in Black,” “Boeing-Boeing” and “Nunsense, A-Men!”
Performances are 7:30 p.m. with a matinee for each production at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
New this season is a change in opening nights. After the Playhouse’s 50th season opening June 13, all subsequent productions will move their long-standing opening night from Thursdays to Fridays. Information for auditions and for season tickets, call 748-8083 or visit www.millbrookplayhouse.com.
