Billtown Music Festival returns to Community Arts Center this month
The stage of the Community Arts Center in Williamsport will showcase several of the area’s finest gifted musicians on Oct. 19.
Starting at 4 p.m. and continuing non-stop until 10:30 p.m., area talent will provide 40-minute sets highlighting a variety of musical genres and artistic presentations.
In mid-2011, the Billtown Blues Association initiated the idea of shining a spotlight on local musicians, many only known in their own city block, but deserving to grace a world class stage. BBA members knew they could capture the talent, but what about the stage? It only took a few seconds to convince Rob Steele, executive director of the CAC to come on board. The partnership was born. Immediately Steele offered all the technical and production elements the CAC has to offer.
All agreed this event needed to be developed as a long-term annual endeavor. All agreed the focus would be on presenting multiple genres of music, establishing the event as family friendly, affordable to all of Williamsport, and of the highest quality for the enjoyment of the musicians and the audience.
The first Downtown Billtown Music Festival was held Oct. 20, 2011 and deemed a success by all involved. Immediately following, plans were underway for a second.
This year’s event will feature local singer-songwriter JR Scott, an Uptown Music Collective creation The Urban Souls – youngsters who compete in size with their instruments – prominent blues favorites the Dirty Mojo Blues Band, The Frank Wicher Bandfeaturing outlaw country, the wildly popular Clyde Frog, college circuit rockers AudioBox, inspirational singer Kim Adair and a special return of the Beatles cover band Rubber Soul.
Tickets are on sale at the CAC Box Office located on 220 W. Fourth St., by phone at 570-326-2424 and online at www.caclive.com. Information available at billtownblues.org and caclive.com.
