Preservation Hall Jazz Band returns to Lackawanna College
SCRANTON – New Orleans’ own Preservation Hall Jazz Band will perform at 7 p.m. Nov. 24 at The Theater at Lackawanna College as part of Community Concerts at Lackawanna College’s 2013-14 season.
Founded in 1961, Preservation Hall was built to support and protect traditional New Orleans jazz music. Under this roof, legendary and original players such as George Lewis, Sweet Emma Barrett and Kid Thomas Valentine were the stars that blossomed during these formative years. Located in the French Quarter of Louisiana, Preservation Hall still remains in business as the Jazz Band continues to tour the world and promote the form of jazz that they believe has lost popularity to rock and roll and modern jazz music.
The 2013 performance marks Preservation Hall Jazz Band’s third Community Concerts appearance in 10 years and promises an amazing night of authentic New Orleans flare. The band is currently promoting “That’s It!,” its first-ever album of all original compositions in its more than 50-year history.
Tickets can be purchased at 570-955-1455 or www.etix.com, or through the box office in Angeli Hall, 501 Vine St.
