Uptown Music Collective enrolling for summer semester

The Uptown Music Collective will hold its annual summer open house from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at their facilities at 848 W. Fourth St. Prospective students will able to tour the facilities; meet with teachers; and register for lessons, classes and workshops taking place in the upcoming semester.

Workshops will take place during the hours of the open house so those in attendance can see what takes place at the school on a daily basis.

Students will also have the opportunity take part in the school’s upcoming performance events, on stage or behind the scenes. These events include a 24-hour Blues-A-Thon on June 6 and 7; Set The Night to Music on July 4 in downtown Williamsport; and the 2014 Summer Music Fest at the Brandon Park Band shell on Aug. 3.

Established in April of 2000, the Uptown Music Collective offers private lessons at all levels on guitar, bass, drums, keyboards and vocals, as well as classes and workshops in music theory, songwriting and styles such as the blues, jazz, classical and rock

The primary age range of the Collective is 10 to 18 years old, but it is open to all ages and levels. Along with private lessons, the Collective offers a myriad of programs including its flagship Performance Program.

This program educates students about the ins and outs of major and minor performances, including direction, production, preparation and technical aspects of the performances. The program brings outstanding student run performances to the area, including most recently, “With A Little Help from My Friends: A Tribute to The Beatles.”

During the summer open house, prospective students will be able to enroll for the school’s 16-week summer semester. The summer semester will run from May 5 until Aug. 23. There are openings this summer for students of all levels who are looking for private instruction on the guitar, bass, drums, keyboards/piano and voice. There is no previous experience needed to begin enrollment in The Collective.

The Uptown Music Collective will also be offering its popular workshop series which includes “Jazz, Rock, and Blues”; “Drum Technique”; “Choir”; and “Tech Monkey.” Classes will be in full swing as well, including “Music Theory” 1 through 3, “Harmony” and “Rhythmic Theory.”
