Daughter of Williamsport native sings in Europe
Morgan Patton, of West Chester, recently traveled to France to perform as part of the Chester County Voices Abroad ensemble.
She is the daughter of Kathleen Hawkins Patton, formerly of Williamsport, and the granddaughter of Dave and Ann Hawkins, of Williamsport.
The ensemble, made up of 15- to 21-year-old youths from the suburban counties of the Philadelphia area, performs sacred and secular music alike, visiting countries in Western and Central Europe.
This year, the group visited five cities in France in just under two weeks, beginning with a concert in Lourdes at the Basilique de l’Immaculee Conception on June 16 and finishing with a performance at the famed Cathedrale de Notre Dame in Paris on June 27.
At Normandy, the site of the D-Day landings in June of 1944, the group performed at the American War Cemetery, singing “The Star Spangled Banner” and “America the Beautiful.”
It was Patton’s third year performing with the group. In the previous two years, she visited Ireland and Italy.
Patton will be a senior at Notre Dame Academy in Villanova this fall.
