Blues musician Tony O to perform at Bullfrog Brewery
Blues musician Tony O will perform at 9 p.m. April 30 at the Bullfrog Brewery, 229 W. Fourth St.
Hubert Sumlin and Howlin’ Wolf dubbed him “Tony O” and passed on a legacy that this NYC-based guitarist holds in sincere regard, delivering an understated and honest approach to traditional, amplified blues.
Tony O earned his props playing alongside frontline blues legends Pinetop Perkins, Hubert Sumlin, Jimmy Rogers, and Snooky Pryor while on tour with Little Mike & The Tornadoes. After a three-year stint touring and recording two albums with the Legendary Blues Band, Tony O formed his own group, pulling in two members of The Tornadoes, Brad Vickers and Rob Piazza. The Tony O Blues Band’s 1995 debut album on Deluge Records, “Top of The Blues,” with special guests Pinetop Perkins (piano), Willie “Big Eyes” Smith (drums), Brad Vickers (bass) and Stan Bronstein (sax), received immediate international acclaim. Tony O also was nominated for the Grammy Award in 1998 with Pinetop Perkins for “Born in the Delta.” He has recorded on more than 25 records for seven different labels.
Special guests for the show are Mike Mettalia and Midnight Shift, who perform 1950s-era rock and rockabilly music.
