Peruvian mime and puppetry company to perform at Campus

LEWISBURG – A Peruvian-based mime and puppetry company, Teatro Hugo & Ines, will perform April 28 at the Campus Theatre, 413 Market St.

The one-hour performance is suggested for ages 10 and above and is the last event in the Weis Center’s 2015-16 season.

With amazing dexterity and delightful creativity, this dynamic duo transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary in performances for adults and children alike. Combining mime, dance and puppetry, Hugo & Ines create a riot of characters composed of knees, feet, hands and elbows and a handful of props. Each performance introduces a parade of memorable beings who, in their brief moments on the scene, play out the poetic moments of daily life.

Hugo Suarez was born in Lima, Peru and Ines Pasic is originally from Mostar, Bosnia-Herzegovina. Their paths crossed in Italy where Hugo was performing mime on the streets. Ines, a trained pianist from the Sarajevo Conservatory, began to study pantomime with Hugo and quickly discovered that her dexterity on the keyboard had provided her with tools that would be useful in mime as well as music. Together they founded Teatro Hugo & Ines in 1986 and premiered their first piece, Return to Darkness, in 1987.
