Registration open for Hamilton-Gibson summer theater camps
WELLSBORO – Youth from Tioga, Bradford, Lycoming and Potter counties in Pennsylvania and Chemung and Steuben counties in New York who are completing the third through ninth grades this June are invited to register now for a Hamilton-Gibson Summer Theater Arts Camp in Knoxville, Blossburg or Wellsboro.
“We developed our camp theme, ‘What the Dickens!?’ in celebration of ‘Oliver!’ It’s the musical we are presenting this summer at Mansfield University,”said Thomas Putnam, Hamilton-Gibson artistic director.
During the camps, participants will go on a four-day exploration of all things theater arts and Charles Dickens. They will learn about Dickens’ famous books and characters, British accents (high and low) and how life then compares to life today while experiencing improvisational acting, mime, music, choreography, art, costuming, stage movement, vocal training and more.
Each camp will end with a public performance to demonstrate what the youth have learned. For the performance, the campers will do a short, fractured dramatization of the story of “Oliver Twist.”
The Knoxville Summer Theater Arts Camp will open June 13 at the Knoxville Community Center, be held daily from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and conclude with the public performance at 3 p.m. June 16.
The Blossburg camp will open at the North Penn High School Auditorium on June 20, be held daily from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and end with the public performance at 3 p.m. June 23.
The Wellsboro camp will be at the Warehouse Theater, 3 Central Ave. It will begin June 27, be held daily from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and conclude with two performances for the public, at 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. June 30.
