Hamilton-Gibson to present ‘Sleepy Hollow’ radio drama

WELLSBORO — Hamilton-Gibson will present “The Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow,” a Halloween radio drama, at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 27, 28 and 29 and 2:30 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Warehouse Theatre, 3 Central Ave.

In October of 2010, Tony “Sparx” Palermo wrote this imaginative adaptation of Washington Irving’s classic short story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” originally published in 1820. A radio dramatist-director, composer, engineer, sound effects artist and educator from Los Angeles, Palermo has been producing radio plays in schools and theaters for nearly two decades.

The focus of this 60-minute radio drama is a love triangle coupled with spooky and humorous elements. It is set in Sleepy Hollow, New York on the shore of the Hudson River at the turn of the 18th century. Ichabod Crane (Brian Burket), an itinerant schoolteacher, falls for the pretty Katrina Van Tassel (Sarah Knight). Tension builds between Crane and her other suitor, the handsome Brom Van Broont (Cody Getz). Then, one dark autumn night, Crane is riding along a lonely wooded road, sees the terrifying Headless Horseman and flees. The next day, villagers discover Crane’s horse and the remains of a pumpkin. He is never found.

Of the 19 cast members, nine are not only actors but also do sound effects, from chirping crickets to people dancing and pounding hooves. They include Kaitlyn Bartlett, Anne Bishop, Gracie Bishop, Yolie Canales, Dominic Doganiero, Sarah Knight, Ed McQuaid, Tom Reindl and Gene Wagner.

The other cast members are Sean Bartlett, Brian Burket, Amy DeCamp, Cody Getz, Gabe Guignard, Gloria Guignard, Mary Anne Heston, Ava Keeler, Evelyn Lippincott and Phil Waber.
