Lycoming College to dedicate organ during free concert
Lycoming College will dedicate an organ during a concert at 7 p.m. Oct. 29 in Clarke Chapel located on the college campus. Admission is free.
Special guest artist, Stephen Buzard, organist and music director at St. James Cathedral in Chicago, will play a number of pieces on the Allen Organ, donated by the late Dr. Mary R. Schweikle ’63 and installed with a generous gift by Charles Getchell, Sc.D.
At St. James, Buzard is the organist and choirmaster for the cathedral choir and principal musician of the cathedral, responsible for leading, managing and coordinating the music program as an effective part of the cathedral’s overall ministry.
Formerly the organist and director of music at Saint Thomas Church Fifth Avenue in New York, Buzard is a graduate of Westminster Choir College and Yale University Institute of Sacred Music. He was winner of the 2010 Arthur Poister Competition and recently was named one of the top 20 organists under 30 by The Diapason magazine. Buzard’s premier recording, “In Light or Darkness,” (Delos) has received wide critical acclaim.
