History Comes Alive series finale features George Washington

WELLSBORO — The Deane Center’s History Comes Alive series will end with Carl Closs of Kennett Square, portraying George Washington on Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Coolidge Theatre, 104 Main St., Wellsboro.

A former educator and business executive, Closs has dedicated his retirement years to helping children and adults discover the real George Washington. For 19 years, he has traveled from coast to coast as Washington’s living biographer.

His portrayal goes much deeper than simply donning a uniform. Closs is a serious scholar and lively speaker who delights audiences with little-known, instructive and entertaining facts about Washington that skillfully draw strong parallels between the way Washington responded to difficult challenges in the 18th century and the situations Americans face today. It took years of exploring the lives of the Founding Fathers before Closs fully understood why Washington emerged as the leader among leaders.
