Millbrook presents ‘Back in the Basement’
MILL HALL — If Millbrook Playhouse’s Cabaret Theater stage had a curtain, it wouldn’t have been lowered following the final performance of “Mrs. Mannerly.”
“Back In the Basement” will be presented in the Cabaret as a fundraiser for the professional playhouse following this summer’s extraordinary successful season.
Producing artistic director David Leidholdt has invited Millbrook veteran Shannon Agnew to return to the Cabaret for sessions of stories and songs.
“Back In the Basement” (presumably referring to Millbrook’s Downstairs venue) will be presented at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, with a 3 p.m. show on Sunday.
Agnew has practically been a fixture on Millbrook stages the last three summers, most often seen in the Cabaret, in “The Marvelous Wonderettes,” “Kitchen Witches,” “Church Basement Ladies,” “Leading Ladies,” “My Vaudeville Man” and “The Queen of Bingo.”
On the upstairs Main Stage, the versatile Agnew was featured in 2016’s fine family fare “The Little Mermaid.”
This summer, however, the popular entertainer was at the old barn theater only as director for the Cabaret’s opening attraction “Barefoot In The Park.” Now, Leidholdt states, she is elated to return to “her basement home” for this special fundraiser.
Funny bones will be tickled as Agnew shares some hilarious and magical moments at the Playhouse, while offering her special renditions of show tunes and standards.
Toss in impersonations and “stand up” comical routines, and “Back In the Basement” promises a fun-filled, entertaining, interactive show.
Joining Shannon Agnew on stage is Justin Adams, another Millbrook alumnus who musically directed all of Millbrook’s 2015 and 2016 musical productions, and has played keys for countless shows and benefits for the Playhouse.
