Area high schools ready the stage for Ray of Light award nominated performances

For a couple of local high schools, fall arrived a little late this year — like almost in the middle of winter.

The Community Theatre League’s annual Ray of Light’s program adjudicates area high schools’ comedies and dramas when they are presented in the fall semester, and the larger scaled musicals productions when presented in the spring.

But at a time when several high schools are already starting to rehearse the musicals selected for springtime staging, Williamsport Area High School and Loyalsock Township High School obtained permission to present their “fall” shows in early 2018.

Their upcoming Ray of Light entries:

• “Makin’ It (Williamsport Area High School) — 7 p.m. Jan. 12, 13 and 2 p.m. Jan. 14.

“Almost, Maine” (Loyalsock Township High School) — 7:30 p.m. Feb. 1-3.

Fourteen participating high schools from Lycoming, Clinton, Snyder, Northumberland, Montour, Columbia and Bradford counties have announced the following spring musical productions:

• “Cinderella (Meadowbrook Christian Academy, Milton) — 7 p.m. March 8, 9 and 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. March 10.

“Les Miserables — School Edition” (Central Columbia High School, Bloomsburg) — 7 p.m. March 8-10 and 2 p.m. March 11.

“Seussical” (Montoursville Area High School) — 7 p.m. March 9, 10 and 2 p.m. March 11.

“How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying” (Troy Jr./Sr. High School) — 7:30 p.m. March 9 and 1 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. March 10.

“9 to 5” (Loyalsock Township High School) — 7 p.m. March 16, 17 and 2 p.m. March 18.

“Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” (Central Mountain High School, Mill Hall ) — 7 p.m. March 16, 17 and 2 p.m. March 18.

“Footloose” (South Williamsport High School) — 7 p.m. March 16, 17 and 2 p.m. March 18.

“The Adams Family — School Edition” (Line Mountain High School, Herndon) — 7 p.m. March 23, 24, 25.

“Beauty and the Beast” (Hughesville Area High School) — 7 p.m. March 30 and 2, 7 p.m. March 31.

“Once On This Island” (Benton Area Middle/Senior High School) — 7 p.m. April 6, 7 and 2 p.m. April 8.

“Mary Poppins” (Midd-West High School, Middleburg) — 7 p.m. April 12-14 and 2 p.m. April 15.

“You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown” (St. John Neumann Regional Academy) — 7 p.m. April 20-22.

“Little Shop of Horrors” (Jersey Shore Area High School) — 7 p.m. April 27, 28 and 3 p.m. April 29.

“Annie” (Sunbury Christian Academy, Northumberland) — 7 p.m. April 26-28, preceded by an optional dinner at 6 p.m., and 2 p.m. April 29.

“Ragtime” Shikellamy High School, Sunbury) — 7:30 p.m. April 26-28 and 2 p.m. April 29.

CTL’s Ray of Light Awards for Excellence in High School Theater will be held 2 p.m. May 19 at the Community Arts Center, 220 W. Fourth St., preceded by the “red carpet” treatment, with music, photographers, limos, etc. beginning at 12:30 p.m.

A gala dance party and reception follows the show in which each of 14 high schools will present a production number from their musical.
