Area theaters hold open auditions
Like the U.S. Marines, Millbrook Playhouse and the Community Theatre League are looking for a good men, women — and children, too.
Tryouts need not be a trying experience, promises Millbrook’s David Leidholdt and CTL’s Marie Fox.
Both Leidholdt and Fox announce open audition dates in March for local and area actors, seeking roles in upcoming productions.
Producing artistic director David Leidholdt has scheduled auditions for the 2018 summer season, which includes Mainstage productions of “Beauty and the Beast” (June 15-30); “Sister Act” (July 6-15); “To Kill A Mockingbird” (July 20-28); and “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change” (Aug. 3-12).
The Cabaret lineup: “Savannah Sipping Society” (June 8-15); “Marvelous Wonderettes; Dream On” (June 22-July 8); “Footlight Frenzy” (July 13- 22); and (just recently announced) “Act of God” is set for production on July 27-Aug. 3.
Auditions are set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Lock Haven University’s Sloan Auditorium, corner of Ackley Drive and Fairview Street, with parking available in the Recreation Center’s lot.
On Friday, auditions will be from 4-7 p.m. for kids and teens only. On Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon and from 2-5 p.m. for all ages (for callbacks), on Sunday, auditions for all ages from noon to 4 p.m.
Those trying for a role in a musical are requested to bring their sheet music and sing a music theater song, no longer than 32 bars. An accompanist will be provided. For those seeking a role in a play, a monologue not more than one minute is recommended.
Youth auditioning for Chip (“Beauty and the Beast”) or Jem and Dill (“To Kill A Mockingbird”) will read excerpts from that show’s script.

Marie Fox, a Williamsport Area High School instructor and veteran director of CTL productions will hold auditions for “The Miracle Worker” at 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the Community Theater, 100 W. Third St.
Youth interested in auditioning for the role of Helen (described as a blind, deaf mute girl 8-11 years old) will have auditions separate from the general casting call, beginning at 6 pm. Sunday and Monday.
Fox emphasizes that there are several roles for adults and other children in William Gibson’s poignant drama of Anne Sullivan’s valiant efforts to teach the young, unruly Helen Keller to communicate.
The Community Theatre League has a no-discrimination casting policy. No prior experience is necessary, and CTL encourages those with diverse backgrounds and abilities to audition. A Mainstage production of the 2017-18 season, “The Miracle Worker” will be presented on May 4 and 5, and 10-13.
