Rock Lombardo to lead Penn State School of Theatre

UNIVERSITY PARK — Award-winning stage director, artistic director and adapter, Rick Lombardo, will lead Penn State School of Theatre as it readies its expanded season, while offering a sneak peek at its eight-production lineup on Wednesday.

Lombardo was named as the new director of the School of Theatre based upon the “perfect mix of academic and professional experience which he brings to his new role.”

“I am looking forward to joining the staff and faculty of the School of Theatre, and am eager to begin the collaboration with them to chart the further success of the programs and our students,” says Lombardo.

“Penn State School of Theatre is nationally recognized for its excellence in preparing students to succeed in that profession, and it is a honor to be entrusted with the leadership of this vital school and its programs.”

A variation in the format of Penn State Centre Stage’s season was announced before Lombardo’s appointment last month.

A Sneak Peek Celebration is scheduled from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the on-campus Pavilion Theatre Lobby and Terrace.

Theatergoers can get an advance look at the eight productions which comprise the 2018-19 lineup by meeting with the directors, designers and students who will produce the season attractions. As a bonus, snippets from a couple of the upcoming shows will also be presented.

Lombardo confirms that four production will be presented on the Playhouse’s stage, and four of the Off-Centre shows will be presented at Penn State’s Downtown Theatre Center in State College.

Centre Stage shows: “Legally Blonde: The Musical” (Oct. 2-11), “Clybourne Park” (Nov. 6-15), “Handle On a Hardbody” (Feb. 19-Mar 1) and “To Kill A Mockingbird” (Apr. 2-12).
