Repasz Band to present holiday concert at CAC

The historic Repasz Band will present its 2018 Holiday Concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Community Arts Center, 220 West Fourth Street.

As always, the Repasz Band seeks to channel many of the various spirits of the winter holidays through an exciting variety of repertoire. This concert includes music from sacred to secular, from modern to medieval, from sublime to ridiculous, from boisterous to contemplative, and from stately traditional American to mambo a la salsa Cubano.

There are several glorious Christmas medley pieces or concert wind ensemble treatments of many solid traditional Christmas favorites. There is “A Chanukah Celebration” arranged by David Bobrowitz. The Manheim Steamroller version of ‘O Holy Night’ is included, as is an arrangement of a Renaissance carol in “Gaudete” arranged by Brian Beck. The band visits both “The Night Before Christmas” as well as “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” The former is a band setting of Clement C. Moore’s immortal tale arranged by Randol Alan Bass and narrated by the band’s own Joseph Smith. The latter is sort of a tribute to the 25th anniversary of Tim Burton’s stop motion animation movie of the same name. Arranger Stan Appelbaum takes the audience on a “Toboggan Ride” and Erik Morales sends season’s greetings with “We Wish You A Mambo Christmas.” John Philip Sousa makes a season cameo through “The Belle of Chicago March”.

The band plays under the batons of Director Albert Nacinovich, Associate Director Jeffrey Dent, and Assistant Director Jessica Lewis. More information about the band’s history and present performance calendar is always available at the band’s website, repaszband.org.

The Repasz Band is once again joining with the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank in a gesture of caring for those in need during the holiday season and throughout the year. Concertgoers are invited to bring canned food items to share if they desire to do so. Concert admission is free.
