Speed reduced on local highways due to winter storm

The state Department of Transportation this morning temporarily reduced the speed to 45 mph on Route 15 and interstates 180 and 80 in north central Pennsylvania due to the severity of the winter storm.

PennDOT said motorists should avoid travel if possible.

Although PennDOT crews have been treating roadways, the department’s primary goal is to keep roads passable, not completely free of ice and snow, the department said, noting it will continue to treat roadways throughout the storm until precipitation stops and roads are clear.
