New business spotlight on Erb’s West End Family Market and Catering
Scott and Cara Erb wanted to bring a neighborhood market to Newberry that offers their own unique pizza, sandwiches and other food to customers.
Last October, they opened Erb’s West End Family Market and Catering, 2424 W. Fourth St., Williamsport. Cara, a native of Old Forge, is excited about local people sampling some of the pizza and other food offerings unique to her hometown.
She remembers the carnivals back in Old Forge when they were “all about food.”
“A lot of our stuff is homemade,” she said.
Cara has done local catering for a number of years and also served as a cook at Independent Fire Co., South Williamsport.
“Over there, I made a bunch of homemade stuff,” she said.
It’s no secret she has a real passion for food, she said. Scott said the business, located at the site of the former E.H. Bernstine Pharmacy, has already catered weddings and sports banquets.
Groups of up to 500 people can take advantage of the catering service.
“We wanted to have a family business,” said Scott. “I was raised in Newberry. I thought it might be a good place for a business.”
The couple’s three children take turns working at the market. The market does a lot of walk-in business. Customers can order pizza, salads, a variety of subs and sandwiches, and soups.
The business makes deliveries. Cara said the Old Forge style pizza cannot be found anywhere else in the local area.
“Our cheese steaks are one of our biggest sellers,” Scott said.
The market also sells bottled soda, chips, and other foods and accessories. The business accepts credit cards.
“People thanked us for opening this place,” Scott said. “The bottom line is this is a family market.”
The market can be reached at 326-4411.
