New business spotlight on Bennie’s Burgers and Wings

The people at Bennie’s Burgers & Wings are banking on the use of fresh produce from local businesses to make the new eatery stand out among the flurry of fast food restaurants in the city of Williamsport.

“We buy all local,” said general manager Ken Eiswerth. “We support the Country Store and Jack’s Produce. It’s all local businesses. It’s what we believe in, what we support.”

Bennie’s Burgers opened in April at 315 Washington Boulevard, the former site of Wendy’s. Eiswerth said it’s a great location along a busy street with plenty of customers from nearby Lycoming College frequenting the restaurant.

He said Bennie’s does an equal amount of business for both lunches and dinners. True to its name, burgers and wings are the most popular items on the menu.

The restaurant also serves up Bennie’s dogs, chili, French fries, corn nuggets, sodas, and nine different milkshakes.

Owner Ben Stopper, for whom the restaurant is named, came up with the idea for the eatery.

“He wanted fresh produce,” Eiswerth said.

He noted that they both came up with the name for the restaurant.

So far, Eiswerth said it’s been a lot of hard work starting up and running the business, but it’s been fun.

“We love it,” he said. “We got a good staff here.”

Added manager Delene Harvey: “We have a lot of fun here.”

About a month ago, the restaurant opened a drive-thru window. The business seats about 86 people.

“We have a lot of customers come in daily,” Harvey said.

Eiswerth said the business has slowed down a bit since classes at Lycoming College ended in the spring, but he expect things to pick up again in the fall with the return of students.
