New business spotlight on Crossfit Billtown
Many ways exist for people to get into shape with plenty of different exercises used to flatten stomachs, strengthen muscles and build cardio-vascular fitness.
Chris Buck, owner of Crossfit Billtown, 917 Arch St. rear, thinks he’s hit on one of the best ways of doing that.
He calls his regimen one that utilizes “constantly varied movements performed at high intensity.”
And it’s the sort of training that can be done by anyone – no matter what shape they are in.
“Someone who has never exercised a day in his life can do them,” he said. “If you want to learn, we can teach you.”
Those who train at Crossfit Billtown track their progress, and that can make all the difference. Buck referred to his fitness regimen as functional training.
It’s not, he said, stationary bikes and treadmills. Rather, clients mimic movements of daily life such as picking up things.
But through the training, they become stronger and more fit. Ideally, a person should train four times a week to realize benefits from the training.
It’s the variety of the types of exercises that make the difference. Buck said he opted for Crossfit training a number of years ago after realizing he was not in quite the shape he hoped.
At the time he was doing more conventional type of exercising such as lifting weights and jogging. He feels Crossfit training is not only more beneficial, but more fun.
“Many people go to the gym and don’t know what to do,” he said.
At Crossfit, members are under his supervision at all times. He tries to make the fitness regimen as well rounded as possible and customized to the individual’s needs.
“Everyone is different,” he said.
And everyone gets results, he added. He said the best thing about his business is working with clients and watching them form relationships with other members.
