New business spotlight on Texture Plus

Jamie Taylor and Mary Puderbaugh bring more than 30 years of combined experience to cutting and styling hair.

Last month, they opened Texture Plus, a hair salon at 2411 Riverside Drive, DuBoistown.

“We decided to go out on our own,” said Taylor.

The two had worked together at Shear Texture, South Williamsport, before teaming up for their business venture.

“We are looking forward to a lot of years,” Taylor said. “We don’t plan on going anywhere else.”

The two say they love what they do. For Puderbaugh, it’s the satisfaction she can bring her customers. Taylor agreed it’s all about helping people feel better about themselves.

“It’s meeting people,” she added. “It’s always fun.”

Both are Empire Beauty School graduates and consider what they do to be somewhat of a calling.

“I just have always known since I was a little girl this is what I wanted to do,” Puderbaugh said.

They described their salon as family-oriented. Indeed, it’s not uncommon for an entire family to visit the salon. The business caters to men as well as women, even if there is a decidedly feminine ambience to the salon. Manicures, pedicures and waxings are also offered.

But the bread and butter of the business is hair.

It’s a two-person salon, with Taylor and Puderbaugh both taking care of all the duties. Taylor said the business may pose some challenges, but it’s what they both want to be doing.

“Right now we are just comfortable where we are as a family-oriented salon,” she said.

Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday to Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The phone number is 505-3449.
