New business spotlight on Way Cool Beans
Todd Foresman really enjoys a good cup of coffee, and his new business, Way Cool Beans, is perhaps evidence of that passion.
Located in the Pajama Factory, the coffee shop opened Feb. 1.
His business is one of the few in the area that serves up what he calls fresh coffee.
“I grind it fresh in front of you,” he said as he sat behind the counter of the cafe. “I roast my own beans.”
Foresman has created some of his own blends.
He sells muffins and sticky buns too, but don’t expect to buy a sandwich or a cup of soup there.
And he doesn’t serve espresso, lattes or cappuccinos.
He likens his coffee shop to a neighborhood bar.
He grew up not far from the Pajama Factory, and that’s one reason he likes the location.
The big old building at Rose and Memorial Avenue in recent years has attracted a number of businesses and artists who have set up shop there.
“Everybody here is like family,” he said.
He’s found a lot of support from other businesses and hopes to be at the site there for years to come.
Foresman said his is the only real coffee shop in that area of the city.
“And this place has great appeal,” he said. “The courtyard here is really what drew me.”
Foresman started getting his business ready in the fall. It included ordering his own roaster from a California company.
Customers can sit at the counter and drink their coffee or sit at any number of tables located inside.
A lounge area is tucked away in a corner of the shop, and patrons with laptops or other electronic devices can tap into the WiFi service.
For customers on the run, Foresman serves coffee to go.
He started a mug club for regular patrons who keep their personal coffee cups on the premises.
“I wash it (mug) and put it back on the shelf,” he said.
Foresman hopes to eventually book various types of entertainment at the business.
