Hughesville native firm’s new VP
Former Hughesville resident Nathan Hafer has been named vice president of product development by software firm Telarix, Inc. of Vienna, Va.
A 2001 graduate of Hughesville High School, Hafer received his bachelors degree in 2005 from the College of Information Sciences and Technology of the Pennsylvania State University, University Park.
He began his career as an intern with Telarix between his junior and senior years and continued to work with the company part time from the University Park campus during his senior year. Upon graduation in May 2005 Hafer accepted a full time position as a Product Analyst at the global headquarters in Virginia.
Founded in 1996 Telarix serves the telecommunications interconnect marketplace. Its award winning iXTools and iXLink software have become the world leader for providing solutions to the many challenges of major global telecommunication providers.
In his new role at Telarix, Hafer will be responsible for overall product development and for leading the efforts to further accelerate its industry-leading products.
He resides in Arlington, Virginia.

Weichert Realtors – Premier broker and owner Chris Pardee and real estate agent and owner Marcy Benson have announced the company’s 2013 award winners. Six high achievers have earned recognition from the national franchise organization, Weichert Real Estate Affiliates Inc.
Topping the list from the Williamsport agency is Amie Penfield inductee into the WREA 2013 Ambassador Club, followed by Holly Fullerton, Jody Harlan, and Stacy Snyder, inductees into the WREA 2013 Executive Club. These are two of the top three categories of awards to agents presented annually. The WREA 2013 Sales Achievement Award was earned by Christina Beiter and Lori Solomon.
All awards are based on minimum requirement per award category in gross commission income or units earned in 2013. These agents earned their recognition from among associates in 37 states at year’s end.

Ken Klose was recently recognized as the 2013 Employee of the Year at Construction Specialties, Inc. in Muncy.
Klose’s contagious positive attitude, enthusiasm, patience, and determination, as well as his wealth of knowledge are just a few of the reasons he has earned the prestigious Employee of the Year award for 2013, a news release said. In addition, he is an outstanding leader and innovator and in many ways, according to the news release, Klose is the backbone of Construction Specialties.
In addition to Employee of the Year, he also was recognized, along with his team, as the July Employee of the Month for outstanding effort, teamwork, and achievement and he received an “On the Spot” award for exceptional customer service.

North Central Sight Services, Inc. awarded Associates Steve Britton and Darby Obetz as its Blind Employees of the Year for 2013. Both will be nominated for the Milton J. Samuelson and Peter J. Salmon Distinctions awarded by National Industries for the Blind.
Steve Britton, the Milton J. Samuelson Nominee, is “always willing to go above and beyond his normal work duties” as the agency’s Receptionist according to a colleague at North Central Sight Services. Britton is the first associate that customers walking into the facility interact with and he greets them with a smile and a pleasant attitude. Britton has been employed by North Central Sight Services for three years as the Receptionist. He also assists with the agency’s Remedial Eye Care Program which is designed to help families with obtaining eye glasses.
Britton also participates in United Way events as a speaker.
Darby Obetz is originally from Manheim, PA and is currently employed in the agency’s Production Department. She began her employment with North Central Sight Services in the fall of 2012. In her short period of time at North Central Sight Services, Obetz has “shown dedication to her job” and is “highly motivated.” Obetz is the agency’s Peter J. Salmon Nominee.
Darby has worked on the USB Flash Drive and Portable Hard Drive lines as well as on the Library of Congress re-grinding/recycling project of obsolete audio books for the blind.

Ken Bair, maintenance services engineer, has been named the state Department of Transportation’s area district office Employee of the Year for 2013.
Bair, a new release said, was instrumental in analyzing the benefits of and developing an implementation plan for two district-wide seal coat (oil & chip) crews versus the previous process of each county completing its own annual seal coat program. According to the news release, he led and coordinated the efforts of all the district’s county maintenance managers to study the potential benefits of district-wide seal coat crews. Through the analysis, which included communication with other districts that have implemented such district-wide crews, they found that two such crews would improve the productivity and quality of the district’s seal coat operations, free existing county staff to complete additional general maintenance activities and reduce equipment costs.
The program in 2013 was a success and will be utilized again in 2014, the news release said.
Bair, a 12-year PennDOT employee, lives near Mifflinburg with his wife Megan and their children Ainsley, Jake and Reid.
The district office Employee of the Year is chosen from among the 12 employees of the month during the previous year. More than 270 employees work out of the district office in Montoursville.

Kathleen Mitcheltree was recently recognized as the November Employee of the Month at Construction Specialties, Inc. in Muncy.
Mitcheltree was responsible for all of the material planning and purchasing for the her department for nearly a year. According to a news release, she maintained an astonishing work load without skipping a beat and her commitment and customer-focused attitude, as well as her drive for results, are characteristics that make C/S an awesome company with which to do business.

New CEO for
Weis Markets recently announced its board of directors has approved Jonathan Weis as company president and CEO. Weis, 46, will also retain his role as company vice chairman.
Weis had been serving as the company’s interim CEO. As president and CEO, Weis will oversee all aspects of the company’s retail, supply chain, merchandising, human resources, information technology, finance, real estate, and manufacturing operations.
Weis, who joined the company in 1989, is the son of Robert F. Weis, who remains chairman of Weis Markets. During his 25-year career, he worked in positions throughout the company including produce merchandising, grocery procurement and store operations. He later worked in the company’s real estate department where he was vice president of property management and development. In 2004, he became company vice chairman and corporate secretary.
Weis is a graduate of Shikellamy High School in Sunbury and holds a B.A. from Yale University. He has served on various local and regional boards.

Rich Barlett and Doug Winner, accountants with Lewis Barlett Klees PC, recently attended a conference entitled “Annual Tax Planning Guide for S Corporations, Partnerships, and LLCs.” It was offered by the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Harrisburg. The session, a news release said, explored planning issues in creating, operating, and liquidating S corporations, partnerships, and LLCs.
Highlights included: how to handle liabilities of LLCs, planning opportunities and pitfalls in determining basis, recourse and nonrecourse debt issues for LLCs, partnership planning, basis and distribution issues for S corporations, compensation in S corporations, and an update of the late-breaking tax legislation.

General sales manager named
President William A Hodrick Jr. recently announced the appointment of Kevin A Hodrick, associate broker, as the general sales manager for Prudential Hodrick Realty. Kevin will be responsible for managing, growing and developing the sales force in the company’s Williamsport, Lock Haven, Lewisburg and Danville offices, according to a news release.
“During the past three years, Kevin has proved himself to be among the most proficient listing and selling sales professionals for our company and has demonstrated excellent leadership skills. He has embraced the use of current and emerging real estate technology and the tools available to him. I have no doubt that, given his background in training, management, and service his contributions to the company will be superlative,” said William. “Our current sales staff enjoys interacting with him and I’ve received many compliments on his outstanding service from his clients.”

I’ll also continue to handle our corporate relocation business and the broker to broker referrals, our foreclosure and REO activities, and our rental management department. So my plate will be far from empty but not as overloaded as it has been in years gone by. This is definitely a divide and conquer strategy.”
Hodrick also noted that he worked with his father, William Sr., for 10 years prior to his retirement and that Kevin is a third generation Realtor in the family. “It’s really nice to see my son following in my footsteps and those of his grandfather. Third-generation Realtors are rare in this country and I have the utmost confidence that Kevin will be able to continue to grow the company long after I’ve stepped aside,” said William.
Kevin Hodrick, the news release said, is a member of the Pennsylvania Association of Realtors, the National Association of Realtors, and a member, director and Secretary of the West Branch Valley Association of Realtors. He holds the SRS designation and has won numerous national and company awards.
