Business leaders visit chocolate shop
Highland Chocolates hosted a “Meet and Greet” event at its Wellsboro facility for local business owners and community leaders recently.
Highland Chocolates, according to a news release, is a nonprofit chocolate-making business in Wellsboro that employs 20 Tioga County residents with disabilities. Highland Chocolates is known for its famous pretzel bark, as well as chocolate filled gift baskets, specialty molds and much more. Highland Chocolates is owned and operated by Partners In Progress Inc.
At the event, guests were treated to tours of the Highland Chocolates factory given by some of the business’ longest-standing employees. After the tour, guests were able to talk with Highland Chocolates employees about how Highland Chocolates is able to serve gift-giving needs of the community. Guests, the news release said, also were treated to light refreshments and hors d’oeurves catered by the Mansfield University Sodexo branch.
The “Meet and Greet” event was in conjunction with the Mansfield University’s public relations workshop course offered by Holly Pieper in the department of communication. Students taking the class work with local nonprofit organizations each spring to develop public relations campaigns.
“Partnering with students from Mansfield University is always a bonus for us. Their enthusiasm and eagerness is refreshing and certainly an asset to any project planned,” Irene Morgan, executive director of Partners In Progress, said. “This group of public relations students did a stellar job working with Highland Chocolates. We have great hopes of increasing our sales due to their efforts.”
During the event, informational materials were available for the guests including a product catalog, a fact sheet detailing creative ways that Highlands Chocolates could benefit many businesses, as well as interactive computer presentations and quizzes. The public relations students put together various marketing materials including brochures, business cards, rack cards, business proposals, and radio commercials.
Highland Chocolates is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It offers tours of the factory for small groups, free of charge during regular business hours. Highland Chocolates can also customize gifts for any occasion throughout the year.
