Grocery chain plans to assist animal shelters
Weis Markets recently announced the launch of its sixth annual Paws for Pets program, a company-wide initiative that collects monetary donations, pet food and supplies for local animal shelters and rescue organizations throughout the month of May, according to a news release.
“Paws for Pets has become one of our company’s and one of our customers’ favorite and most successful programs,” Brian Holt, vice president of advertising and marketing for Weis Markets, said. “Each year we are amazed at the generosity of our customers as they donate pet supplies and money to help improve the lives of homeless pets. Shelters continue to be overwhelmed by the number of animals in need, and we hope our program this year will provide some relief to local rescues and shelters.”
Weis shoppers can contribute to Paws For Pets by purchasing items on shelters’ wish lists, the news release said. Items include dog, cat, puppy and kitten food, kitty litter, collars, harnesses and leashes, toys, treats, pet shampoos, nail clippers, pet brushes, combs, food and water bowls, dishwashing liquid, bleach, mops and brooms, towels/washcloths and powder-free latex gloves. After customers purchase the items they would like to donate, they can place them in a specially marked collection cart near checkout.
In addition to supply donations, customers are able to make monetary contributions with the purchase of vouchers for $1, $3 or $5, or Paws for Pets bracelets for $1. All proceeds donated will go to local shelters.
