New business spotlight on Stonehouse

Williamsport’s downtown restaurant scene continues to evolve, and among the newest additions to the lineup of eateries is The Stonehouse in Pine Square.

Featuring wood-fired pizza and other unique food offerings, the restaurant opened it doors with a grand opening April 30.

“We are excited about it,” said Tony Ecker, the restaurant’s general manager. “We had great feedback from everyone who comes in.”

The restaurant at 343 Pine St., Suite 2, is housed at the former site of 3 Gringos.

Owners Charles Imbro and Dave Hertwig launched that Mexican-style restaurant two years ago before deciding to go in a different direction with The Stonehouse.

“We kind of changed themes a bit,” said Robson.

The menu includes pasta, soups and salads, appetizers, sandwiches, and, of course, pizza.

The pizza is made with a naturally occurring sourdough. Pizza toppings include nitrate-free sausage from the Country Store in Pennsdale and all-natural pepperoni.

Patrons can watch flames dancing from the wood-fired oven built into a wall of the restaurant.

“Our pizza makers interact with customers,” Ecker said.

Customers can also order drinks at the concrete top bar.

Robson noted the restaurant’s extensive wine list.

“We have 12 beers on draft,” he added.

The brick interior and wood floors create a special ambience for customers.

The restaurant also features shots of various downtown landmarks captured by photographer Kimberly Fry.

With seating for about 100 people, the restaurant is family friendly, Robson said.

There’s a child’s menu and a few video games in one corner of the restaurant.

Soon to be completed is a concrete deck at the front of the restaurant facing the courtyard where patrons will be able to enjoy a drink or dine.

The Stonehouse serves both lunches and dinners.

“We have been doing a pretty good lunch business,” Ecker said.

He said pizza has been the most popular item on the menu thus far.

Robson noted efforts by the restaurant to help the community.

Each Sunday, $1 is donated to a local charity for every pizza sold out of the restaurant.

The Stonehouse is open Tuesday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays.
