New business spotlight on Sunset Ice Cream
Michael Rine often thought about opening a Sunset Ice Cream shop.
He always liked the sweet taste of the ice cream and the idea of being his own boss appealed to him. He and his wife, Denise, began serving up Sunset ice cream in March from their business location at 519 Route 87 Highway, Montoursville.
“This is something I talked about doing for years,” Michael said.
The store offers 13 flavors of Sunset ice cream, but eventually they hope to offer more. Plans also are in the works to possibly serve hoagies and pizza and foot-long hot dogs. The couple expect the business to really take off in the hot summer months when more people are out and about and looking to eat something cold.
“There’s always people eating ice cream,” Michael said.
They say the site along a busy highway is ideal for their business. So far, business has been mixed and has included a lot of regulars, according to Denise.
“It’s based on the weather,” she said.
Seating is available for patrons at the front of the store. Michael agreed there’s nothing quite like seeing children come in and enjoy ice cream.
“Sometimes the parents are worse than the kids,” he laughed.
Plans are in the works for holding an open house.
“We are thinking of some specials on the weekends, maybe holding barbecues,” Michael said. “We can do catering.”
