New business spotlight on Charcoal Charlies
MUNCY – The ribs, pulled pork sandwiches and other tasty delights are cooking at Charcoal Charlies.
“Guys from Texas and down South rave about the ribs,” said Charlie Mull, owner of his newly opened eatery at 240 N. Main St., Muncy.
Mull has a passion for cooking, especially ribs and other meats that he prepares on his charcoal wood spit.
All meat, he noted, is bought fresh from the butcher.
“I use real apple branches for my cooking,” he said. “It gives a great flavor for the meat.”
The menu also includes sliced beef sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, homemade soups, fresh cut fries, and macaroni & cheese.
Mull long wanted to get back into the restaurant business. Nearly 20 years ago, he owned and operated a restaurant under the same name in Montoursville.
“I opened it up in 1995 as a hobby,” he said.
But the burden of holding down a full-time job while trying to run a business became too much. Now retired from the full-time job, he decided to give the business a second go. He said he made a number of renovations, mostly in the building’s interior, before opening the business June 1.
“I repainted some floors,” he said. “We had to fix some plumbing.”
Business, he said, has been good thus far. Mull is hoping to be open throughout the winter months. Customers can enjoy a meal outside at the front of the business. Charcoal Charlies also has drive-thru service. Parking can be found on either side of the business.
Hours are Tuesday to Friday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
The phone number is 570-546-8461. The business also has a Facebook page.
