October is national disability employment awareness month
October is national disability employment awareness month, a nationwide campaign celebrating the skills and talents that workers with disabilities bring to our workplace and educates about the value of a workforce inclusive of their skills and talents, according to a news release.
Reflecting the important role disability plays in workforce diversity, this year’s national disability employment awareness month theme is “#InclusionWorks.”
Today more than ever, businesses need people with a demonstrated ability to adapt to different situations and circumstances, the news release said. And perhaps more than any other group, people with disabilities possess precisely these attributes. On a daily basis, people with disabilities must think creatively about how to solve problems and accomplish tasks. In the workplace, this resourcefulness translates into innovative thinking, fresh ideas and varied approaches to confronting business challenges and achieving success.
National disability employment awareness month has been celebrated for the past 70 years under the direction of the U.S. Department of Labor and the state Office of Vocational Rehabilitation.
