Project will expand Muncy-area day care
Families United Network is expanding its day care services with a move into a new building at the campus site at 276 Ashler Manor Dr., Muncy to accommodate 150 children.
“We do about 30 (kids) currently. In our new facility, we will not only have traditional day care, but also before- and after-school programming and summer day care,” said Families United Network President Tom Neuhard.
An addition to the 16,000-square-foot facility will be finished in 2018 to accommodate up to 50 adults in need of day care services.
Neuhard said the entire project will result in additional staff being hired.
Construction for the children’s day care is expected to be completed May 1.
The children’s day care will offer a number of services and special features, according to Neuhard.
Kids will have access to indoor and outdoor recreation areas, including a swimming pool.
The facility will be highly secure with cameras and monitoring.
“We will have a full-service kitchen for focusing on nutritional meals and a full-time chef,” he said. “Unlike any of the other day care facilities in the region, we will have a sick bay.”
Children who become mildly ill at the day will be able to be cared for by a licensed practical nurse.
Families United presently provides day care at the Church of the Resurrection in Muncy.
“We couldn’t expand at the church. They didn’t have enough space for our expansion,” Neuhard said. “Our board of directors decided to build a new building on our campus.”
Neuhard said he expects to bring on board 23 people to staff the children’s day care and another 9 for the adult day care.
Day care, he said, is part of the Families United mission, which is all about caring for families.
“Muncy is a designated growth area,” he said. “As more industry is moving to this area, there is more and more of a need for child day care.”
An open house is scheduled for April 22 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. A ribbon cutting is set for 12:45 p.m.
