New business spotlight on Dollar General

A new Dollar General store has opened its doors in the local area.

Dollar General Corp. spokeswoman Crystal Ghassemi said the store in Allenwood is among 615 operating in the state and more than 1,300 nationwide.

The high traffic area along busy Route 15 offers up a good location for the Union County site.

“When choosing store locations, meeting customers’ needs is Dollar General’s top priority,” Ghassemi said. “The company looks for places where we can offer customers an easy and convenient shopping choice. We know convenience is a major factor in our customers’ shopping decisions as we generally serve customers within a three to five mile radius, or 10 minute drive. We also take demographic trends, competitive factors, traffic patterns and community concerns into consideration. Allenwood is a great fit for us and we look forward to being longstanding community partners.”

Depending on the needs of the store, it will employ about six to 10 employees, she noted.

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the new store was held in early July.

This year is shaping up to be a big one for the Dollar General Corp.

Plans call for opening up some 1,290 new stores in 2017.

In the meantime, many other stores are undergoing remodeling or in some cases being relocated, according to Ghassemi.
