month’s employee

Dayton Hess has been named state Department of Transportation district employee of the month for December 2017.

Hess is a transportation construction inspector working in the construction unit. He is responsible for inspecting work performed on roads and bridges to ensure they are constructed to contract specifications.

In the four construction seasons since he was hired, “he has gained a reputation for reliability and professionalism,” a news release said. “He has gained a wide range of experience in various construction projects and has demonstrated dedication in every assignment.”

He takes pride in his work and can be depended on in any situation, according to the news release. He rarely takes time off and works overtime whenever needed.

“Hess constantly looks for ways to improve his job performance,” the news release said. This includes reviewing past projects to investigate ways to complete assignments more efficiently. He embraces technology, and recently taught a class on how to use an iPad on construction projects.

He is always willing to share his knowledge. During the past construction season, Hess trained four PennDOT employees on all aspects of project inspection.

A nearly five-year PennDOT employee, Hess lives in Benton with his wife Britni.
