Davanti Wood Fired Pizza sets up shop

MARK NANCE/Sun-Gazette Ray White of Davanti Wood Fired Pizza removes a pizza from his portable wood fired oven during Home Made Days at Brandon Park Friday. The eastery was on of over 100 vendors on hand with a large variety of food. The event will continue through the day Saturday.

Davanti Wood Fired Pizza is showing up — at festivals, fairs, parties, weddings and other venues.

Ray and Charleen White, of Jersey Shore, started up the mobile business last year and are having fun introducing their Neopolitan pizza to people.

“We have a 13-foot trailer with a pizza oven and a pizza prep table,” Ray said. “Everything is made fresh and made to order on site.”

Ray, who has been making pizza for more than 20 years, said he enjoys the social aspect of meeting those who sample his food.

A software engineer by day, Ray said he started up the business to bring in a bit more income for his family, which includes his two sons.

And, he’s found it’s been a great experience.

“It’s encouraging to hear someone say, ‘Wow that was a really good pizza.’ We get that a lot. It’s fun to be with my family,” he said.

The biggest challenge to the business is dealing with bad weather.

“That is something we can’t control,” Ray said.

Much of his advertising is done on Facebook where customers can find where the trailer will be on any particular day.

Many people are learning about Davanti through word of mouth, however.

“This month has been really busy for us,” he said. “We are doing the Jersey Shore Town Meeting. The calendar is starting to fill up.”

Last weekend, the Davanti trailer showed up at Homemade Days in Williamsport’s Brandon Park.

Ray said his business is Christian run with the philosophy that “God has something good for us.”

Overall, he said he likes being out in the community with the business.

“It’s definitely enjoyable doing it,” he said.

The business also does catering.
