Local doctors attend Chinese Embassy reception

Washington, D.C. Major General Zhang Li and his wife hosted a historical reception for hundreds of distinguished guests at the Chinese Embassy to celebrate the 91st Anniversary of the Founding of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army on July 30.

General Zhang Li is China’s Defense Attaché.

Naval Attaché Senior Captain He Bing and his wife, along with Air Attaché Senior Colonel Ye Jiang and his wife, served as associate hosts.

The Embassy featured a special pictorial exhibition detailing the establishment and history of the PLA and the Chinese Armed Forces.

Dr. Grace Shu, chairman of the Chinese-American Republican National Federation and National Health Service advisor, and Dr. Jason Shu, of Lycoming County, attended the reception.

Other prominent guests included Lauren Carter, Tyler Lane, Sherwood and Susan Goldberg, Ralph Winnie, Jr., Dr. Wu Huiqiu, He Xiaohui, Wu Daryih, Huang Pailing, Zhong Tao, Bettina Dee, Zheng Yongjian, Wang Yuming, Kong Taihe, Chen Shengjian and Li Lijie.

Ambassador Cui Tiankai gave the keynote speech.

He has been the Chinese Ambassador to the U.S. since 2013, and previously served as the Chinese Ambassador to Japan.

He holds a postgraduate degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.

“The relationship between China and the United States is very important for both countries and the entire world,” Jason Shu said.

Dr. Grace Shu said. “We appreciate the invitation. There are so many areas where both countries can and should cooperate, such as fighting terrorism. President Trump and President Xi will be able to continue working together towards positive solutions, and Secretaries Mattis, Mnuchin, and Ross also are doing great work.”
