Dolly’s Diner opens new location

Dolly’s Diner, located at both 1849 E. Third St. and 707 Claire Road in Montoursville, added a third location at 701 Park Ave. that opened last month. The new location can hold larger parties and allows for more space for customers. It also brings Grigg’s coffee and baked goods as well as all-day breakfast and lunch specials, dinners and more to locals in the area.

“The first two are very successful,” Rhonda Walizer, front of house manager, said. “Usually at the one in Montoursville, people are waiting for other customers to leave just so they can find a place to sit down. There was definitely room in the community for a third.”

This particular location can hold anywhere from 85 to 90 people, 20 more customers than the Montoursville location.

Walizer along with Corie Bennett, bakery and retail manager at the Montoursville location, worked together to decorate the new location with an optimistic vintage style to keep customers excited to come back with a smile on their faces.

“The goal for this location, Dolly’s West, is ‘this is our happy place,’ “ Walizer said. “When people come in here, I want them to come in and look around and to be impressed with the decor and the atmosphere, but by the time they leave I want them to not only have enjoyed their food but to think ‘that was a happy experience.’ “

The 16 employees at this particular location work hard to create an uplifting environment, including the back-of-house manager, Jon Adderly, who works with Walizer on a daily basis to make sure the customers have the best experience at Dolly’s.

“I have fun at work,” he said. “We pride ourselves on serving people with smiles, it could change somebody’s whole day. We try to be positive to not only make it a happy place but a loving place.”

Walizer added that the bakery items like pies and cakes that Bennet makes are some of the locals’ favorites, something that sets them apart from other local businesses.

Park Avenue also gets traffic from the hospital and the YMCA, something that Walizer agrees helps bring in customers for a sit down late-night dinner with their families or friends, or for a stop-and-go iced coffee or smoothie.

This particular location is open Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sundays from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., which allows more time for community members alike to get later lunches and dinners due to the other locations closing around 3 p.m. on weekdays.

“It’s great people, great food and great times,” Adderly said.
