Mansfield University to hold ‘visit day’

MANSFIELD – Prospective students and their parents are invited to Mansfield University for “Visit Day” on Feb. 8.

Admissions counselors, faculty members and current students will be available to talk about MU’s 70 undergraduate programs, financial aid, club activities and campus life.

Participants can tour campus, including the North Hall Library and Mansfield’s new residence halls.

Penn College offers noncredit Microsoft courses

For those looking to sharpen their computer skills while learning something new, Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Pennsylvania College of Technology is offering some easy-to-learn computer courses.

The Microsoft Office courses are taught by qualified instructors at a comfortable pace for all levels of adult learners.

The small, noncredit classes are held in a relaxed computer-classroom environment, allowing participants to learn, experiment and ask questions. Courses are hands-on, with each participant working at a computer station.

In addition to multiple levels of Access, Excel, PowerPoint and Word, WDCE also offers OneNote 2010, Outlook 2010, Excel PivotTables, Publisher 2010 and Word: Create Interactive Forms.

Noncredit team supervisor program offered at college

Quality leaders improve the workforce, and Pennsylvania College of Technology is offering a noncredit Team Leader-Supervisor Program for new or prospective leaders beginning in February.

Sessions for the affordable training program, presented by Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Penn College, will be held at the Center for Business & Workforce Development on the college’s main campus in Williamsport.

This program is offered in four series and serves as a foundation for new leaders while providing existing leaders with an opportunity to update their skills.

The second series consists of four half-day sessions running from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost for the four sessions is $595.

The series need not be taken in any particular sequence.

The instructor, Eric Bergstrom, is an experienced leader of organization development, human resource management and manufacturing-operations management. He brings more than 20 years of industry experience to the program. Bergstrom holds a doctorate in workforce education and development from The Pennsylvania State University.

The individual sessions for the Team Leader-Supervisor Program-Series II include Creating a Continuous Improvement Environment (Feb. 21), Building a Culture of Engagement & Empowerment (Feb. 28), Creating a High Performance Work Team (March 7), and Leading Through Conflicts in the Workplace (March 14).

Mill Hall student selected as delegate

Jazel Hill, of Mill Hall, a student at Central Mountain High School, has been selected to represent Pennsylvania as a National Youth Delegate at the 2013 Washington Youth Summit on the Environment at George Mason University.

Hill has been awarded the opportunity to join a select group of 250 students from across the country to participate in an intensive week-long study of leadership in environmental science and conservation.

Hill was chosen based on academic accomplishments and a demonstrated interest and excellence in leadership in the sciences and conservation studies.

The summit will encourage and inspire young leaders who desire a unique experience focused on successful careers in this dynamic industry and will be held June 23 to 28.

LHU announces open house days

LOCK HAVEN – The Admissions Department of Lock Haven University will host several free open houses during the spring semester.

The day’s events will include presentations by faculty regarding potential majors, a question-and-answer period with current LHU students, a walking tour of campus and discussions about university programs, student life and financial aid.
