WAHS junior accepted into program at MIT

Williamsport Area High School junior Sabrina Emms has been accepted into the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Women in Technology Program this summer.

For the mechanical engineering concentration, the school chose 20 students out of 300 high-achieving girls who applied from across the country. Emms also is receiving a $1,500 scholarship from MIT so she can attend the four-week program.

While there, Emms will attempt to try her hand at designing and building machines for a specific task, and also will learn about mathematical modeling and use three-dimensional modeling to improve her design. The program is for girls who have shown a talent for science and who might consider studying engineering.
