Zach Mosso recognized by Welding Society

The Williamsport Area High School is known for many things, ranging from music education to athletics. However, one thing that is unknown to many people is the quality of the Career and Technical Education program.

Offering classes in a range of technical avenues, including automotive, welding and construction, the Williamsport Area High School is adept in providing students with the skills they need to secure and maintain a job following high school.

Recently, the high school displayed this excellent educational opportunity at a local welding competition. Held at Penn College and hosted by the American Welding Society, five students under the instruction of Mr. Dave Gephart competed against 15 other students from Triangle Tech, Sunbury, and the Columbia Montour AVTS.

Representing Williamsport were Zach Mosso, Logan Garvey, Brett Gair, Austin Bilbay and Tylor Wishard. These students had an hour and 45 minutes to complete an open groove weld. Their welds were then judged by three different skilled professionals from the field. The results were sealed until the annual American Welding Society Banquet that was held by the local chapter later that month at Penn College. Mosso did exceptionally well at the competition, placing 4th overall.

In addition to being invited to the awards banquet, Mosso also received a wealth of welding supplies donated from local businesses, including a Lincoln welding helmet, a tool bag, a jacket and welding gloves.
