Women’s Club names Girl of the Month

The Business and Professional Women’s Club Girl of the Month for June is Katie Ann Wasson, daughter of Dwayne and Kelley Wasson of Jersey Shore.

Wasson’s activities include National Business Honor Society, yearbook, Model U.N., Prom Committee, tennis, track and field, FBLA and Relay For Life.

Katie has held three FBLA offices, ninth grade chapter president, 10th grade vice-president and vice-president of social activities. She is active in her church choir and is the youth representative for the Oval United Methodist church.

She has been 4-H president for seven years and treasurer for one year. She also has been the chairperson for the decorating committee for the 4-H state horseshow for three years.

She has been a junior member of Kiwanis for eight years and works as administrative assistant at Wasson Auto Sales.

Wasson was chosen to be a Hugh O’Brien Youth conference representative. For her work in 4-H, she earned the Outstanding Junior Equine Member Award and the Outstanding Equine Member of the Year award for the state of Pennsylvania. She also was chosen club member of the year.

In addition, Wasson has twice won the President’s Award for Academic Excellence. She was chosen as Jersey Shore’s representative for Free Enterprise Week and Lycoming College. Most recently, she was awarded the Mercy Presidential Award at Mount Aloysius College.

Wasson enjoys tennis, horseback riding, reading, archery and photography. She plans to attend Mount Aloysius College to major in biology, after which she will pursue a degree in large animal veterinary medicine, specializing in exotic animals and equine surgery at Cornell University.
