Muncy teachers and staff donate to local charities and families in need
MUNCY – Muncy Area School District employees participate weekly in a program called Casual for a Cause. Each week teachers and staff pay $2 to dress down on Fridays. Each month a different department chooses a local charity or family to donate the funds to.
Last year was the five year anniversary for the Casual for a Cause program. Funds collected in both the elementary and high school buildings were totaled for the five years. Over the first five years of the program, Muncy teachers and staff have donated more than $30,000 to local families and charities. The district-wide total for the first five years came to $30,279.
To date, donations have been made to more than two dozen local families and charities including, Lycoming County SPCA, Muncy Public Library, local scholarship funds, Student Need Fund, operated through the guidance office which provides glasses, clothing and other items to needy students; CURE Epilepsy Foundation, Sunny Brooke Meadow Therapeutic Riding Center, Pennsdale Fire Co., The American Red Cross, Salvation Army, and gift cards for needy families during the holidays.
The district plans to continue the Casual for a Cause program this school year.
