Lycoming College to hold Family Weekend Sept. 20 through 22

A variety of entertaining and educational activities are planned for Lycoming College’s annual Family Weekend, Sept. 20 to 22. Registration will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in Burchfield Lounge, Wertz Student Center.

Highlights include the annual Family Weekend Concert, showcasing the musical talents of the Lycoming College Band and Chamber Choir, 7 p.m. Friday in Clarke Chapel.

Saturday the women’s soccer team will host Juniata at 1 p.m. at the Shangraw Athletic Complex. The Warrior football team will face Misericorida at David Person Field at 1:30 p.m. The men’s soccer team will host Geneva at 4 p.m. A softball alumni game, featuring the current softball team, will take place at 11 a.m. The athletes will have a picnic lunch with students, parents and alumni afterward.

Saturday information sessions include a “State of the College Address” by President Kent Trachte, Ph.D., and a “State of the Freshman Class Address” with Andrew Kilpatrick, assistant dean for freshmen.

Parents will also have the opportunity to meet with Lycoming professors during a Faculty Open House.

Friday’s activities also include two hours of “asteroid bowling” at Faxon Bowling Lanes and Saturday features a chicken and pulled pork barbecue dinner at 33 EAST.

Family-friendly magician Brian Miller will provide entertainment Saturday from 8 to 9 p.m. in Clarke Chapel.

The event is sponsored by the Office of Student Programs and Leadership Development.

A family bonfire will begin around 9 p.m. in the Upper Quad.

On Sunday, Catholic mass will be held at 9 a.m. at St. Boniface Church and a Protestant Ecumenical Service will be held in the college’s Clarke Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Brunch will be available from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. A special brunch with President Trachte is scheduled for 10 a.m.
