New scholarship fund established in memory of Wellsboro student
WELLSBORO – The Board of Directors of the Community Foundation for the Twin Tiers has announced a new scholarship fund benefitting a graduate of the Wellsboro High School each year.
The Kyle B. Lenhardt Scholarship Fund was established Lenhardt’s family in memory of their loved one, an avid basketball player.
Shortly after completing ninth grade, he passed away at the age of 15.
The Kyle B. Lenhardt Fund was made possible by numerous supporters and fundraising efforts in his memory.
Lenhardt would have graduated at the end of the upcoming school year, so it was especially important to the family to make a scholarship award possible for 2014.
While the fund is still growing, a pass-through donation of $1,000 will allow the scholarship to be given out each year until the fund is endowed, grown to be self-sustaining and able to give out annually on its own.
The scholarship will be awarded to a graduate or graduates who have been accepted into an accredited university or college to pursue a degree in science or respiratory therapy. CFTT will be working with the school district to set up a selection committee for this scholarship.
Scholarship funds are commonly established through CFTT as donors want to support youth continuing their education.
