Mansfield University celebrates homecoming

MANSFIELD – Alumni, family and friends returned to Mansfield University to celebrate homecoming on Oct. 4 through 6.

The theme was “Mount Up Move Out Lead!”

Aquoya Royal was named homecoming queen and Kevonte McClain was named homecoming king.

The couple was crowned by MU President Fran Hendricks during halftime ceremonies of the Mountaineers football game against Post University on Saturday.

Royal is a senior from Steelton. She represented the Black Students Union in the campus-wide voting.

McClain is a senior from Rochester, N.Y. He represented the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

Earlier in the day, the annual homecoming parade made its way up Main Street to the delight of the crowd lining both sides of the street.

On Oct. 4, the MU Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame welcomed four new members during inductions ceremonies at Manser Hall.

Robert “Bo” Brisiel ’66 (basketball), Scott Frick ’93 (football), Nate Gibson ’97 (football) and Terry Manning ’63 (baseball) were enshrined. The new Hall of Famers also were honored during the homecoming parade and before the football game.

The weekend also included a golf tournament, a pep rally with a bonfire, a pre-game alumni tent party, concerts and many other activities.
