Muncy Monster Dash to be held at Myers Elementary

The Muncy Myers Elementary Organization of Parents and Teachers (OPT) will host the Muncy Monster Dash 5K Run/Walk, one mile Kids’ Fun Run with Obstacles Event as its primary fundraiser on Oct. 26.

The proceeds generated from the fundraiser supply the Myers Elementary students with school T-shirts, field trips, assemblies, supplies, Thanksgiving food baskets for families in need, achievement awards certificates and more.

From the very young to the more mature, those new to exercise to the well trained athlete, the Muncy Monster Dash offers something for everyone.

The event hosted 261 5K participants and more than 100 Kids’ Fun Run participants in 2012.

Both events will begin and finish at the elementary school at 125 New Street in Muncy.

The 5K course will take runners and walkers through the historic town of Muncy.

Walkers can view the fall scenery and competitive runners will appreciate that the run begins will a slight grade and offers a bit of downhill and flat terrain, providing Dashers will a potentially quick personal record time.

The Kids’ Fun Run course is located exclusively within the school grounds for safety.

Kids can choose to complete a one half mile loop for a ribbon or test their limits and go a second lap to earn a medal.

All 5K participants 12 and under can also run the Kids’ Fun Run for free. Kid-friendly costumes are strongly encouraged for both runs.

As in previous years, Halloween themed trophies and plaques are presented to the top male and female overall finishers as well as the top three male and female finishers in each of the age groups: 14 and under, 15-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; and 60 and above.

Awards for the event will be distributed at a 10 a.m. ceremony, while the costume ribbons will be presented immediately after each event.

New this year, the Muncy Monster Dash Kids’ Fun Run will include four kid-friendly, optional obstacles and the 5K event will also precede a free health fair.

The health fair will showcase fitness and health related organizations, professionals and businesses within the community.

There also will be free mini exercise sessions in which all can participate and perhaps try something new beginning at 9:15.

Mini sessions will be Zumba and CrossFit, offered by CrossFit.

Family activities will begin at 8:30 a.m. and continue until 11:30 a.m.
