Montoursville names Boy and Girl of the Month

Montoursville Area High School named William Joseph Confer, son of Marcia and Roan Confer, as Boy of the Month for October.

Confer’s favorite subject is biology and he has been a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, English and Math National Honor Societies and is president of the Science National Honor Society.

Following graduation, he plans to attend college and major in bioengineering and would like to eventually receive a doctorate degree.

“Will is a combination of Richard Feynman, Craig Veuten with a touch of Grizzly Adams a little bit of Davy Crockett thrown in for good measure and all wrapped up in a Forest Gump-like package,” said his teacher, Steven Tressler.

Girl of the Month for October at Montoursville Area High School is Karissa Lynn Rhodes, daughter of Sandra and Gene Clark.

Her favorite subjects are music and math. Her school activities include county band, musicals, choir, drum major, theater arts, Tri-M Honor Society (historian and president), ville’, jazz band, American Youth Soccer Organization, district band and district choir.

Following graduation, she plans to attend college and major in music therapy.

“Karissa is an excellent student,” said her teacher, Jaclyn Gilbert. “She’s hard working, motivated, cheerful, talented and deserving of this award. She has been a model leader in chorus for four years.”
