Dr. Cindy Allen heads state teachers’ association
LOCK HAVEN – Dr. Cindy Allen was elected president of Pennsylvania’s State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (PSAHPERD) at the group’s annual convention held in Valley Forge.
PSAHPERD represents all health educators and physical education teachers across the state of Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania’s state association is one of the largest in membership across the United States.
Allen, a professor in the Health Science Department at Lock Haven University, has been an active member of PSAHPERD for the past several years. She has served the association as its vice president in the health division three times, was chair of the special projects and nominations committees and has served as a member of the structure and function, grassroots, awards, outstanding programs, supervision and coordination and on the applied strategic planning committees.
Allen will preside over the annual convention held at Seven Springs Resort in November, represent the organization at the Eastern District Convention in Newport, R.I., in February and at the national American Alliance Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance convention held in St. Louis, Mo., in April.
She has been a faculty member at LHU for the past 19 years, serving as a faculty member in the Health Science and Health and Physical Education Departments and was director of student teaching and field experiences.
Prior to LHU, she taught in Keystone Central School District and served in the central office as curriculum director.
She recently completed a superintendent’s letter of eligibility from California University of Pennsylvania.
